Some systems need more power and therefore require a 550 Watt power supply. More power is a good thing when it comes to power supplies. Your computer will only pull what it needs, but having more power available means you can add more peripherals, upgrade your video card, and allow the system to run more stable with more consistent power.
AP-MPS3ATX55EDELL16 for specific Dell Tower computers
The Athena Hercules AP-MPS3ATX55E is a 550 Watt power supply compatible with many OEM (branded); Dell, HP, Compaq, E-Machines, Gateway, Sony and IBM Tower computers. This 550 Watt power supply is designed for Tower systems (Vertical) and is NOT a replacement for the small proprietary power supplies for Dell desktop (Horizontal) systems.
Micro PS3 ATX Form Factor
The AP-MPS3ATX55E is specifically designed for Dell, HP and other OEM systems. The form factor is Micro PS3 ATX, which is the same height and width of a normal PS2 ATX power supply, however the depth is shallower and the connectors, pins and voltage are different. There is also no power switch on the AP-MPS3ATX55 as the branded computers control power on/off through system software.
Dell 16 or Dell X cable may be required for some Dell systems
This 550 watt power supply will work with most Dell Tower systems. Some DELL systems will require the Dell 16 or Dell X cable. This power supply listing includes the Dell 16 cables. Make sure you choose the correct listing. Sometimes confusing motherboard connector 20/24 pin
The AP-MPS3ATX55E supports 20 pin or 24 pin ATX v2.2 motherboards. The motherboard connector is designed to work with both, meaning the last 4 pins of the 24 pin connector pop off for 20 pin motherboards. This sometimes confuses customers as they think they received the wrong power supply.
Video connectors (PCI Express, HP)
The AP-MPS3ATX55E also has a PCI Express 6 pin connector (to provide power to a PCI Express VGA card) and a 4 pin connector specifically for HP Video connections.
Xeon Motherboard ready
The AP-MPS3ATX55E includes the EPS-12V 8-pin connector the Xeon motherboards, which are generally used for servers
